What should you call me?

A new foster parent recently asked our support group what our foster children call us. Personally, all of our foster children have been infants when they came into our care. When referring to myself, I used Mama. If there were children in my home who spoke, they called me Mama whether they were fostered, adoptive, or biological children. It's not something that was discussed. It just happened.

If the children were older, I would likely introduce myself as Ms. Tacole. I would give them the option to decide what to call me. I am open to Mama or even a nickname they choose for me being aware that I am not displacing their biological mother. I am just temporarily providing some of her roles and responsibilities.

What are your thoughts?
